Our
National Ambassador for Young People's Literature,
Jason Reynolds, was
interviewed on the Late Show With Steven Colbert Thursday night. Every response he gave to every question was marvelous. Everything discussed was significant. Colbert was excellent, too, treating children's literature with respect, and he was obviously well prepared.
By the way, Reynolds released a new book last month,
Stuntboy, in the Meantime.
I felt the same way. It was so good to see Jason Reynolds talking about the importance of kitlit for kids to have available to them, and it really was nice that Stephen Colbert took it seriously. It's such a critical time with all these people trying to ban books they probably haven't bothered to actually read.
ReplyDeleteI've never felt strongly about Stephen Colbert, one way or the other, but watching this suggested that perhaps I should be paying attention to him as an interviewer. And I plan to seek out Jason Reynolds' books now, too. This was an example of an interview that did everything you hope an interview will do.
