The year Happy Kid! was published, an adult nonfiction book was published with a similar cover. I think it had a little Hitler mustache, though I can't be sure. I wish I could find that, and I'd do a round-up post of smiley face books.
ReadingFool--I'm embarrassed to say that that shot over my head. I did notice, though, that a few books I am unfamiliar with were included. British books, I assume, which makes sense since the Guardian is a British publication.
