I just this minute learned that Mare's War by Tanita S. Davis was named a Coretta Scott King Award honor book. Or, I should say, the honor book, since only one was chosen this year, and it was Tanita's.
I am excited.
Thanks to Book Moot for the news.

Thank you! I am still sort of "Huh? ME?" about the whole thing.
...which is really just not the gracious, benignly smiling response I was hoping to have to any awards.
She lies. She's like, "Oh, God oh GOD, please tell me I don't have to make a speech!"
I was a finalist for a state award once and had to prepare a little something to say because you didn't find out who actually won until you got to the awards' ceremony. For days ahead of time and while I was sitting in the audience, I kept thinking, Depending on what I say, I could wreck this whole thing.
So, really, being nominated and not actually winning isn't all that bad a thing because you get the honor and attention without having to take that risk.
