Are You A Tripods Fan?

Sam Riddleburger is doing a John Christopher Week at his blog.

You know John Christopher, of course. The Tripods Trilogy? Post-apocalyptic books about life on Earth after it has been invaded and overrun by aliens? The museum scene may stick out in your mind, as it does in mine. That and the escape from a tripod city.

And I read the books as an adult.

Oh yes, I loved these as a kid. Scared the bejesus out of me. I've never returned to them as an adult reader, though. Perhaps I should.

I loved these, too. They were some of the earliest science fiction that I read. I've also reread them as an adult, and while I didn't enjoy them quite as much as I did when I was young, I did still enjoy them.

I went back and looked at my review of The White Mountains, and I see that I said, "...as an adult I found it just as exciting as I remembered it." So I guess I was wrong in my previous comment when I said that I didn't enjoy them quite as much as an adult.

I thought they were very decent books, but I preferred the prequel, The Day the Tripods Came. It had a very different tone, very contemporary, while the tripods trilogy, itself, was more dark, post-destruction of society.
