Kids Understand Blurbs

Oz and Ends has a post up regarding a child's response to book blurbs. I will say nothing more.

I always wince when I see a blurb from an author who I know is a good friend of the book's author. Why not just add a blurb from the author's mother too?

I'd much rather see a quote from a professional review regarding the author's earlier work. There's a greater chance those won't be biased. Plus, the reviews usually come with just the name of the review journal, so the reviewers have nothing to gain from having their names stamped on someone else's book, the way blurbing authors get a little free advertising from having their name and blurb on a book they didn't write.
