Edge Of The Forest Interview

The Edge of the Forest has an interview with Linda Buckley-Archer, author of Gideon the Cutpurse. The interview was conducted by Michelle Fry of Scholar's Blog.

By the way, the paperback version of Gideon the Cutpurse has been renamed The Time Travelers. While Gideon the Cutpurse probably wasn't the most apt title for this book, it was, at least, interesting.

You're right. I think it was a huge mistake for them to rename it. Part of what made Gideon so successful is that the title was intriguing, and between that and the interesting cover, you just wanted to pick it up and find out what it was all about. But "The Time Travelers?" Bleh. Too generic.

I couldn't BELIEVE they renamed it. Just trying to figure out the editions was a nightmare.

I thought I read that the sales of the hard cover weren't that stellar and the name change and cover change were an attempt to improve things for the paperback. However, I can't swear to that. I thought I'd blogged about it, but I couldn't find it when I did a search of my own blog yesterday.

It looks as if the second book in the trilogy is going to have a different name for U.K. and U.S. hardcover editions. The U.K. edition has a title that focuses on an adult (The Tar Man). Perhaps the U.S. title (The Time Thieves) focuses on the kids, the way the paperback title The Time Travelers does. (Instead of on, again, the adult Gideon the Cutpurse.)

Kid focused or not, they're dull titles.
