It Could Be Done

Usually I find McSweeney's to be nowhere near as funny as I get the feeling I'm supposed to think it is. But I did find A Self-Published Author Addresses the Small Gathering at the Launch Party for Her Memoir amusing in a painful (and others may think snarky) kind of way.

Though, personally, I think the world may very well appreciate the musings of a single 37-year-old woman who lives with her parents. It would just have to be very well done. Think of it as a challenge.

Funny, though I'm not so sure a book that describes cats in great detail would be a bomb. There's a LOT of heavy-duty cat lovers out there.

The piece reminded me of a book I read years back called "The Underminer," whioh I learned of back in 2005 from this review:

But the Underminers don't appear to live with their parents.

The memoir described in the McSweeny piece made me think of a book, too, though I couldn't recall the name at the time. Now, I do. It was The Book of Ebenezer LePage. I can't recall if Ebenezer lived with his parents, but he stayed on the same island all his life. In fact, at the time I read it, many years ago, he reminded me of one of our cousins.
