An Excellent Question Regarding Readiness

No, not school readiness. Readiness for publication.

Almost every time writers submit another draft of a manuscript, they believe they're done. They're good to go. But an editorial eye takes a look and sees they're not. In my experience, this is a good thing. It makes me wonder what many of us would publish without editors.

Oh, please let me send you samples of what people have published in picture books without editors. Or apparently, knowledge about picture books.

And they all thought they had a publishable manuscript. I have to wonder if they ever found out they didn't, and how they responded to the news.
